A Message from Dean Rappley, M.D.
Announcing two chairs of surgery for the CHM
Effective immediately, the College of Human Medicine Department of Surgery will have two chairs: Marc Basson, M.D., chair of the Department of Surgery (East) and Ashraf Mansour, M.D., interim chair, Department of Surgery (West).
Many of you know Dr. Mansour, professor, Department of Surgery, program director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship in Grand Rapids, and director of the College of Human Medicine Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Dr. Mansour joined Spectrum Health in 2002 and is a member of the Spectrum Health Medical Group and is chief of cardiovascular surgery.
Most of you also know Dr. Basson, professor, Department of Surgery, assistant dean for faculty development in Research, and vice president of the Association of VA Surgeons. Dr. Basson joined us two years ago and is a member of the MSU HealthTeam and the director of the Sparrow Wound Center.
We are pleased to have the leadership of these two distinguished surgeons as we strengthen our Department of Surgery in all of its missions. Dr. Basson will primarily focus his efforts on our campuses on the east side of the state, while Dr. Mansour will primarily focus on those on the west side. They will collaborate in strategic planning for the overall statewide department. We will soon initiate an internal search for Chair of the Department of Surgery (West).
Marsha D. Rappley, M.D.
